Fun Package on Winding Roads

Sleek, flickable chasis
Main feature is the compact Parallel Twin engine, which allows the use of a slim, lightweight frame. Together with the forward-located seat position and the under-engine muffler, this engine-frame combination delivers a highly centralised mass distribution, which contributes to the highly agile package. High priority was given to achieving chassis settings that deliver a high level of feedback, enabling the rider better at recognizing the bike’s limits.

Parallel-Twin engine tuned for low-mid range torque
Tuning of the 649 cm3 Parallel Twin engine focused on achieving a throttle response that balances a powerful feeling and a quick-revving character. To optimise performance for everyday riding, care was taken to maximise low-mid range torque. When opening the throttle, riders will notice an extremely smooth and powerful engine character that offers both a high level of control when making minute throttle adjustments and a gratifying rush of acceleration in the lower rpm ranges. Engine updates result in increased high-rpm performance and improved fuel economy.

Long-travel suspension + 17” wheels
Not all streets in the real world are made of circuit-smooth pavement. Road imperfections (bumps, potholes) are far from uncommon, and some streets are not even paved (such as cobblestone, etc). While the VERSYS 650 was not designed for off-road use, its long-travel front fork and rear shock were specially selected to cope with any street conditions it may come across, and, along with its 17” wheels, it enables aggressive sport riding. Further, the ability to consciously control the bike’s front-rear weight transfer gives riders an additional riding element to explore.

Slim, upright riding position
When engineers considered the kind of riding they wanted to offer, and the speed range most often used in everyday riding, a naturally relaxed posture and high controllability care of a slim, upright position with wide handlebars was deemed ideal. Complementing the wide handlebar, the footpegs are positioned low and slightly forward of the seat. Compared to the previous model, the footpegs move 15mm down and 20mm forward, offering an even more relaxed position while also enabling sporty riding.
Ride Longer, Ride Further

Increased Carrying Capacity
Stronger wheels and a stronger rear frame enable the VERSYS 650’s payload to be increased 30 kg to 210 kg. This allows accessory panniers and a top case to be accommodated at the same time. Completely revised to allow the accessory panniers to be attached and removed very simply, the new clean-mount system greatly increases convenience. The panniers are better integrated with the rear of the bike, and the clutter-free design ensures the rear of the bike still looks good with the panniers removed.

Remote preload adjuster
Remote rear preload adjuster makes it easy for riders to adjust their suspension setup to suit riding with a passenger and/or with luggage. The adjuster is conveniently positioned between the seat and rear shock for easy access.

Reduced vibration
Complementing the rubber mounts for the upper-rear engine mounts, the front engine mounts are now also rubber. Rubber mounts for the handlebar and footpeg mounting assembly further maximizes rider comfort.

Wind protection
A larger adjustable windscreen helps reduce wind noise and helmet buffeting, creating a calm space behind which to enjoy high-speed riding. The screen is approximately 1.7 times larger than that of the previous model. Its range of adjustability is now 60 mm, accommodating a greater size variety of riders. Conveniently, the screen height can be adjusted without tools (by simply loosening the two knobs at the front of the screen).

Increased Range
Larger-volume, 21 L fuel tank (previously 19 L) coupled with excellent fuel economy translates to an increased cruising range. The new tank design with its low height expands into the side cowls to keep the knee grip slim and also positions the rider closer to handlebar for better control.).

Numerous accessories for more comfortable touring
Numerous accessories complement its touring ability and contribute to long-distance comfort. New accessories like engine guard, a seamlessly integratable gear shift indicator and relay.
Sharp, Sporty Styling

Aerodynamics and airflow management
A chin spoiler below the twin headlamps helps direct wind around the upper cowl for increased stability at highway speed as well as increased comfort for the rider. Wind passages between the upper and side cowls were aerodynamically designed to help reduce air resistance while managing airflow for increased wind protection.

Multi-function instrumentation
The stacked instrument cluster features an easy-to-read layout. Analogue-style tachometer (with white LED backlights for excellent night-time visibility) is complemented by multi-function LCD screen (with amber backlighting). In addition to the fuel gauge, digital speedometer, clock, odometer and dual trip meters, new features include: remaining range, average/instant fuel consumption and the Economical Riding Indicator.

Sporty styling
Sharp new looks give the VERSYS 650 a stronger Kawasaki identity, while reflecting the sporty nature of its fun, versatile package. Previously featuring vertically stacked headlamps, the Versys 650’s “face” is now adorned with twin headlamps arranged horizontally. The new layout contributes to a more aggressive, sporty Kawasaki design.
